Plants Alive....No, Really!

Science class at the Science Safari this week was all about growing plants.  It's been a cool spring, so there is still time to get some veggies started - and that's just what we did!  Only our seeds came in packages with amazing artwork on the front that could come to life!  After downloading an app from PowerfulPlants.net, we could point our ipad camera at the picture, and the plant character would move and talk to us. The instructions for downloading the app are on the back of the seed packet.  This is a great way to get kids  interested in growing things. There is also a competition to design your own plant character. We hope some of our students give it a try! If you do, send us your character designs and we will post them outside the classroom.

We have more seeds available for sale at the Science Safari, so come get your garden growing!

Next week we are on to another seasonal topic: glow worms and fireflies!  These fun little insects will be emerging soon in June.

With the fast paced transition of the world of modern technology, it became more difficult to engage children in learning. Especially about planting. This idea is very remarkable and appropriately done to engage the children in planting. A planting app? Wow. Even me, a grown up is interested in this app. I remember when I was in first grade, we planted mung beans manually and it takes a really long time to grow. Now, we can even talk to plants? Talk about technology and its perks. This is a very awesome idea.

A lot of processes happen in nature without us noticing them. One great example is the process on how a plant grows from a seed. We must be involved with nature. We were made to interact with it. Even a simple gardening activity will help us appreciate the natural environment. There are a lot articles about gardening that are written in books, online journals, or magazines. We can also ask help from people who has experience. We can also choose a different activity that will make us closer to nature every once in a while. It is good to try something new. Who knows? You might actually enjoy it.

One such issue identifies with the way of plants and the "lower" creatures. The Bible shows that in the first creation, there was to be no demise.
